Oil Price Trends: Iran's Stance and U.S. Gas Price Surge

On August 28, 2026, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf declared that either all Persian Gulf countries will be allowed to export oil freely or none will, impacting global oil supply dynamics. This statement comes as the current oil price stands at $90.55 per barrel, up $22.34 from a year ago. Meanwhile, U.S. gas prices have surged since the Iran War, with variations across states.

The market impact of Ghalibaf's declaration is significant, as it could disrupt oil supply chains and potentially drive oil prices higher. U.S. gas price increases have already affected consumer spending and inflation, with ripple effects on retail and consumer goods sectors. Companies heavily reliant on oil for production or transportation, such as airlines and logistics firms, may face increased costs and margin pressure.

To watch next, monitor Iran's actions and potential retaliation from other Persian Gulf countries. Additionally, keep an eye on U.S. inflation data and consumer spending reports to gauge the economic impact of elevated gas prices. Technical levels in oil prices, particularly around $100 per barrel, may also signal further market reactions.
