<h1>FBI serves search warrants at LA school district headquarters, superintendent's home</h1><p>WASHINGTON (TNND) — The<a href="https://thenationaldesk.com/top-videos/former-fbi-agent-discusses-mar-a-lago-intruder-and-new-developments-in-nancy-guthrie-case-west-palm-beach-florida-president-donald-trump-arizona-disappearance-kidnapping-jody-weis-federal-official-investigation-security-breach-armed"> FBI</a> carried out search warrants at the home of<a href="https://thenationaldesk.com/news/americas-news-now/trump-administration-department-of-justice-sues-ucla-over-alleged-antisemitism-treatment-of-jewish-israeli-faculty-protests"> Los Angeles </a>Unified School District (LAUSD) superintendent as well as the school district’s headquarters on Wednesday.</p><p>Federal investigators were spotted by an NBC Los Angeles’ helicopter carrying boxes out of LAUSD Superintendent Alberto Carvalho’s home located in San Pedro — roughly 20 miles south of downtown Los Angeles.</p><p>The reason behind the searches remain unknown, and authorities said an affidavit prompting the searches is under seal.</p><p>“We can confirm that the FBI is serving a court-authorized warrant at those locations,” the FBI's Los Angeles field office said in a statement.</p><blockquote>“However, the affidavit in support of the warrant has been sealed by the court and we, therefore, have no further comment.”</blockquote><p>LAUSD confirmed to NBC News the presence of federal law enforcement officers at its headquarters.</p><p>“The District is cooperating with the investigation,” a spokesperson for the school district said in a statement.</p><p>Another search warrant tied to the ones at Carvalho’s home and office also took place in Miami, Florida.</p><p>“We searched a residence in Southwest Ranches today as part of this matter and have since cleared the scene,” the FBI’s Miami field office said.</p><p>Since February 2022, Carvalho has led the nation’s second-largest school system. Prior to heading LAUSD, Carvalho was the superintendent of Miami-Dade County Public Schools. While leading Miami-Dade County Public Schools, Carvalho was named Superintendent of the Year in 2014. His work at expanding Spanish-language programs for the school district garnered recognition from Spain. The country knighted Carvalho, born in Portugal, in 2021.</p><p>However, in 2024 Carvalho pushed for the school district to adopt an AI chatbot named “Ed” which was developed by technology company AllHere. The school district paid AllHere $3 million upfront for access to its chatbot, but three months later AllHere went bankrupt.</p><p>AllHere’s CEO Joanna Smith-Griffin was later charged with securities, wire fraud and identity theft for embezzling her company’s funding to pay for her wedding and a down payment on a house. Her case is ongoing.
